Imagine this.

You have a band, and you’re always playing Dave Matthews Band songs for the last few years back. Then you finally got your chance too see them…playing live!

That’s what happened to me. Lucky me that the tour was postponed for like 3 weeks, a friend of mine did not go to the concert, because he simply couldn’t. So, he sold 2 tickets to us, for like…75% off, “it’s for your wedding present”. Swweeeeetttt!!!

The venue was Vodafone Arena (i remember i went there to see garbage and alanis like 8 years ago). We went to see DMB with Audie+Marianne. The spot was good, sitting far back on the tribune, dead center. Surprise! Dave Matthews himself walked up on the stage, and present the opening act (how cool is that). The opening band was really a one-man-band show, called Javier if i’m not mistaken, a local mate. His voice was like Dave, his songs are like Dave’s, but as i mentioned before, one man band. He’s really good. But not a single soul could beat Dave Matthews Band that night.

The only thing i was afraid, he gonna have new playlist….(which i never really like). I wanna hear the well-known dave matthews songs…we were lucky!

The best playlist a band ever had, Pantala Naga Pampa followed by Rapunzel. “Come and relax now, put your troubles down…”. Perfect stage lighting too…really set the mood! Satellite, when the world ends, and crash into me were next. The best thing about live concert is, when the band doesn’t play the songs exactly like in the records. Improvisations and long jams were expected, carter beauford, lessard…they were beauuuuttiifuull mate, especially carter’s drumrolls….quick hands for a big person. Dave himself was dancing all over the stage, on mic, bouncing his feet around (now i remember where reza ‘the groove’ got his dance).

I forgot what the next song was, but Jimi Thing was next after that. A slower, funkier version, long jam session version. DMB just finished another album i suppose, because they played a new song, which Dave called “The idea of you….i think”…..”yea…i think”. Hahahahahahhaa, he wasnt sure of the title. Covering neil young, so much to say, …..one of my best….Too Much, Everyday…….and last but not least, medley-ed in to that song which have snare hits for the intro, yap..it it Ants Marching!! wahooo!!
But then he said “Thank you Melbourne…see you next time”.

Nope, the audience hadn’t left the room yet, clearly there would be an encore. And there he went again, just guitar, mic and himself. Telling story about her sister in South Africa…and then he played the song called “Sister”, and another song, then they finished up with “Wasting Time”.

We agreed. That nobody in Vodafone Arena that night, clearly, didnt feel like…wasting time.
